ICML School

Supporting ICML School in Lambert, Haiti

Hearts for the Hungry works alongside Institution Chrétienne Mondelus de Lambert, known as ICML, and its leader, Véronique “Vero” Mondelus. ICML is located in Lambert, a community outside Milot in northern Haiti. Milot is known for the historic Citadelle, but Lambert is a rural area with deep spiritual, social, and economic needs.  Vero is one of our main contacts in Haiti. Hearts for the Hungry works with her to help purchase food and supplies and distribute them to children, schools, churches, families, and vulnerable people in need.

Together, we can help provide food, education, faith, and hope for children in northern Haiti.

ICML was started because the Lambert community needed both education and the hope of the Gospel. Vero explains that the church is located in an area where voodoo practices are still common. Even with Bible studies and Sunday school, many people still turn to voodoo priests when they are sick or facing hardship. The community also faces serious family challenges. Young girls often have children very early, and some parents leave their children behind when they travel to the Dominican Republic or other places. Many children are left without consistent care or support. Through ICML, children can receive a good education, stay in school, learn the Gospel, and grow in a safe and caring environment.

Why ICML Was Started

ICML opened in 2021 with children who were only three years old. In 2026 the school serves 125 children, ages 3 to 8.  Each year, the school adds a new class as the children grow. ICML currently has six classes, including kindergarten levels and elementary grades through fourth grade. Students study English, French, Haitian Creole, mathematics, French communication, science, music, Bible teaching, and other subjects.

The school has 10 teachers, 1 director, 2 cooks, and security staff. Because qualified teachers are difficult to find in Lambert, ICML must recruit certified teachers from Cap-Haïtien and provide housing near the school.

A Growing School

Vero’s dream is to build more than a strong academic school. She hopes ICML can one day include a professional training center where students can graduate with practical skills and a profession. The long-term vision is for students to continue to university, become leaders, and help transform Haiti.

Future goals include:

  • A music program

  • A soccer program

  • Visual learning materials for English instruction

  • A clean water well for the school and community

  • A mini bus to transport accredited teachers from Cap-Haïtien

  • Housing support for teachers

A Vision for the Future

Hearts for the Hungry supports ICML and Vero’s work by helping provide food and supplies where they are most needed. Hearts provides all the food and also teachers pay. Through Vero’s leadership, this support reaches a our network, including EBAC orphanage, six schools, two churches, families displaced from Port-au-Prince, elderly women, and vulnerable people in need.

Hearts for the Hungry’s Role

For children in Lambert, ICML is more than a school.

  • It is a safe place to learn.

  • It is a place where children can receive food.

  • It is a place where they are taught music, language, math, science, and the Bible.

  • It is a place where they hear that God loves them and that their lives have value.

Hearts for the Hungry is grateful to stand with Vero Mondelus, ICML, local churches, teachers, cooks, volunteers, and ministry partners who are serving children and families in Haiti.  The needs are great, but hope is growing.
