EBAC Orphanage

Pastor Cebien Alexis has spent his life serving the people of Haiti through ministry, education, and care for children. His work through churches, schools, and the EBAC Orphanage has helped provide children with food, education, spiritual care, and hope. When Hearts for the Hungry began its work in Haiti, we came alongside Pastor Cebien and the ministry already taking place through EBAC and his schools. That partnership became the foundation for our feeding program in northern Haiti. The story of EBAC is also deeply connected to the faithful service of Kathy Gouker and Alice Wise, who devoted their lives to caring for, teaching, and raising children in Haiti. Their long-term commitment helped make EBAC a place of safety, structure, faith, and love for generations of children. Everything we do in Haiti today reflects their dedicated work.

As the feeding ministry grew, Hearts for the Hungry built a warehouse at EBAC to store food and supplies. This warehouse is an important part of the mission. It allows food, meal packs, rice, peanut butter, and other supplies to be received, stored securely, organized, and distributed to EBAC, Pastor Cebien’s schools, and other communities as needs arise. Nutritional supplies are often provided through ministry partners, churches, volunteers, and organizations such as Feed My Starving Children. From the EBAC warehouse, Hearts for the Hungry is able to support ongoing school feeding, orphan care, and community distribution.

Hearts for the Hungry helps provide food for the orphans and workers at EBAC and for as many of Pastor Cebien’s schools as donations allow. For many children, a meal at school is more than food. It gives strength for the day, helps children focus in the classroom, and encourages families to keep children in school. The feeding program is closely connected to education, care, and long-term hope. Our goal is to help meet practical needs while supporting the faithful local work already happening through EBAC, Pastor Cebien’s schools, and the people serving children every day.

The EBAC warehouse has also allowed Hearts for the Hungry to respond during times of crisis. During natural disasters and emergencies, including the 2010 earthquake, this local base of operations helped make it possible to distribute food packs, peanut butter, rice, and supplies to hospitals, refugees, orphanage staff, schools, and impacted communities. Because food and supplies are stored locally, aid can be moved more quickly when needs arise.

Today, EBAC is supported by many organizations, churches, and volunteers who have come alongside the orphanage and schools to help serve this wonderful mission in Haiti.

Hearts for the Hungry is proud to work together with these partners. No single organization carries this work alone. It is a shared mission built on faith, service, generosity, and a common desire to help children receive food, education, care, and hope.

Over the years, the impact of EBAC has reached far beyond the orphanage itself. Some of the children who grew up through EBAC have gone on to become teachers, pastors, police officers, and community leaders. Former orphans have even gone on to create another orphanage, Idadee Orphanage, funded by the Pittsburgh Kids Foundation.

These stories remind us that feeding and educating a child can change more than one life. It can impact families, churches, schools, and communities for generations.

Since 2004, Hearts for the Hungry has been honored to serve alongside Pastor Cebien Alexis, EBAC, Kathy Gouker, Alice Wise, local churches, volunteers, and ministry partners to help feed and support vulnerable children in northern Haiti.  The need remains great, but the mission continues.
