Donor Questions

Your support helps Hearts for the Hungry provide meals, emergency relief, and practical care through trusted partnerships in northern Haiti. Below, you’ll find answers to common questions about donations, food delivery, ministry partners, crisis response, and how your gift makes a difference.

  • Some of the food we distribute is donated through partners such as Feed My Starving Children, but getting that food into Haiti still carries significant cost. Donations help cover export, shipping, entry, storage, and in-country delivery expenses. Your support also helps us respond quickly in times of crisis through trusted partners such as Missionary Flights International, especially when shipping delays make local purchasing and faster relief necessary.

  • We work through trusted long-term partnerships to move aid into Haiti as efficiently as possible. Donated food is shipped into Haiti through established logistics channels, with containers arriving in Cap-Haitien. We also send funds through Missionary Flights International, which flies into Haiti weekly. These funds are used for local food purchases and emergency needs.

  • Hearts for the Hungry has served northern Haiti since 2004. We work through trusted local relationships and ministry partners, including EBAC in Cap-Haitien, where our warehouse is located and food and supplies are safely stored for distribution.

  • We are grateful to partner with organizations that strengthen our ability to serve children and families in Haiti. These include EBAC (Eglise Baptiste Action Chretienne), Feed My Starving Children, and Missionary Flights International.

  • No. Hearts for the Hungry no longer operates Adopt-a-Student or Adopt-a-School programs. Our current work focuses on school meals, educational support, trusted local partnerships, and crisis relief for vulnerable children and families in Haiti. We direct support where needs are greatest, including schools, churches, villages, and communities.

  • Response time depends on the situation, but our partnerships help us move more quickly than we could on our own. When shipping is delayed, we are often able to send support within weeks through trusted in-country channels and weekly flights provided by Missionary Flights International.

  • As an example, after the 2010 earthquake that devastated southern Haiti, we shifted focus and partnered with Hopital Universitaire Justinien (JUH), the main hospital in Cap-Haitien. We provided food for the nurses, doctors, and patients 2 to 3 days a week. Working with other mission groups, we were able to assist in feeding the staff and patients. The hospital played a critical role in Haiti during this period as the Port-au-Prince hospital was destroyed.

  • Children are often the most vulnerable in times of hunger, instability, and poverty. We believe that helping children access food, education, daily care, and hope can make a lasting difference for families and communities. We also assist the poorest as needed and do our best to feed as many as possible with limited funding.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat..." - Matthew 25:35

"Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord..." - Proverbs 19:17
