Donation and Restricted-Gift Policy

How Donations Are Used

Hearts For The Hungry, Inc. retains full control and discretion over all contributed funds and uses donations in furtherance of its charitable mission. Unless Hearts For The Hungry, Inc. expressly agrees in writing to accept a donation subject to a legally binding restriction, references to a particular program, school, community, project, family, or individual will be treated as the donor’s charitable preference rather than as a legal restriction.

We make reasonable efforts to honor donor preferences. If a stated project is fully funded, completed, delayed, discontinued, impracticable, or no longer reflects the area of greatest need, the donation may be used for a similar charitable purpose or where it is most needed within the organization’s mission.

Hearts For The Hungry, Inc. does not accept contributions that require the organization to make a gift directly to a named individual or that are inconsistent with its charitable purpose, legal obligations, policies, or available resources.

A donor wishing to propose a legally restricted gift should contact Hearts for the Hungry before making the contribution. A restriction is accepted only when confirmed in writing by an authorized representative of Hearts For The Hungry, Inc.

Hearts For The Hungry, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. No goods or services are provided in exchange for a donation unless otherwise stated.
